How to Make a Feral Druid Cry

August 19, 2011

Step 1:  Spec Resto or Balance.

Step 2:  Loot Fandral’s Flamescythe because you are the only Druid in your 10-man raid.

Step 3:  Hang out in the busiest section of your capital city while in fire kitty form.

Step 4:  Enjoy the sweet, sweet cries of pain and jealousy from your Feral brothers and sisters.

Gathering a crowd of admirers in Orgrimmar.

Ok, so usually I’m not such an attention whore, but dammit, this staff is sweet!  I’ve been joking about how the staff is mine ever since Blizzard announced it.  Then when it dropped I was the only one in the raid who could possibly use it – we didn’t even have our Hunter with us because she wasn’t feeling well last night.  Of course, everyone joked about how we should just shard it, but they knew better than to face my wrath.

I guess I can start recruiting Feral Druids now that I know they can’t steal my precioussss…

In Which We Learn A Valuable Lesson While Dying Repeatedly

This week we learned a very valuable lesson: It is a bad idea to have only one person who knows an essential task.

For example, if only one person knows how to do the flying on the Alysrazor fight, and then that person can’t make it to raid one week, the raid group is completely screwed.  It took us about 5 hours of wiping over two raid nights, but we finally, FINALLY managed to get that damn bird down again.  (Sure, it took us three complete sets of phases to do it instead of two, but she died and that’s all that matters.)

The good news is that we know the ground crew is capable of doing its job and doesn’t lose focus or fall apart during multiple sets of phases; and we also have at least one more person who knows how to do the flying. (Yay, Naishee!)

We fought so hard to get her down this week that we felt it deserved another screenshot.  Shishioo, if you’re reading this, I want you to know we can do it without you!  Now never abandon us again.  Seriously.  We need you.

I keep meaning to blog about all the new exciting changes that were announced for Patch 4.3, and also about how we’re starting up a second raid group.  I guess I should do that soon.  Keep your eyes open!

Hahaha. Yes, our druid got to do that, too. Although, on the plus side, he does have a feral(bear) offspec and tanks some fights that we two heal, so it’s not like he doesn’t *need* the staff. Nevermind that he purchased and held onto a Ranseur to sweet talk a hunter into taking, should there be one present who still needed a weapon upgrade when we finally downed Staghelm. ^.^

We’ve learned that other lesson in the past as well. We *try* to always have people learn multiple roles, such as tanks and healers taking turns being on the top web for Beth, etc. You never know when some key person might have to miss, and it’s costly if no one can step into that role with ease.

Oh, and huge grats on the staff! It definitely is very cool. :D

I keep toying with the idea of going feral in my off-spec because we get so much agility leather that just gets sharded. (We joke that every boss drops rogue loot, every time. Our rogue is one of our best geared members.) However, I really like boomkin and it’s so much easier when I can just share gear between Resto and Balance.

We’ve been really bad lately about training people up in multiple roles. No one wants to be slowing down progression due to a learning curve, so they keep doing whatever it is they’re best at. This should definitely be remedied.

Grats on the staff! Zarm (our druid) was counting down the phases for Domo as 9,7,6,4,5,3, staff!

    It was rather funny.

Then he spent the rest of the raid night playing with his staff. I think at one point he was saying he was going to heal Rag with his staff.

Ooh, good idea! It’s got mastery on it, and I can reforge the crit to spirit. That totally makes it a healing staff!

FYI, I hate you… oh and you suck too.

It’s dropped twice for us already, so I’m sure it will drop for you too!

…Wait, did that make the jealousy better or worse? :P
